june state beer challenge - days 6-10

I can't believe it, but I am officially out of the running for the #NoTXBeerTwice challenge. It was a lot harder than I thought. To be quite honest, I was tired of not being able to grab a six pack and just have a couple of the beers while I cooked and ate. Because of this, I picked up a sick pack of Real Ale's Hans Pils, their deliciously bitter German style pilsner, said 'Fuck it' and turned on the grill!

Some of my Iowa family members came into town for the weekend so I was very excited to show them around Austin and give them a taste of some of the local craft beer we have to offer. Our first stop was Uncle Billy's at the Oasis. I told them the best way to taste their beer is to just get a beautiful flight of their house beers.

On tap (from left to right): Bottle Rocket Lager, Agave Wit, Vienna Lager, Ax Handle Pale Ale, Hop Zombie IPA, Insomniac Coffee Stout and Hell in Keller.

Surprisingly (since they are usually Coors Light drinkers) they weren't big fans of the lager, but were huge fans of the Vienna Lager and the Hop Zombie IPA.

I got myself a pint of the Insomniac Coffee Stout. I absolutely love this beer!

Presley's toy also had a bit too much fun.

The next day was a BBQ and beer filled day as our adventures took us out to Driftwood, TX for a bit of the  ol' Salt Lick. Okay, so it may not be the best BBQ in Texas, but it's damn close and nothing beats the old school hill country vibe with the famous open pit. I've been there a dozen times and seeing the BBQ sauce glisten on all of the open pit meat still makes me drool.

BYOB at the Salt Lick also gives you the opportunity to bring some great local beer.

Picks of the day: Real Ale Hans Pils, Austin Beerworks Pearl-Snap and Real Ale Lost Gold IPA.

Other beers consumed: Adelbert's Dancin' Monks and Philosiphizer, Real Ale Fireman's #4

I may be done with the #NoTXBeerTwice, but I'm still going strong on the June #StateBeer Challenge! I hope everyone else is enjoying their #statebeer as much as I am.

What beers have you had this month? What's been your favorite #StateBeer so far?
