It's June 20, which means it's officially hell, er, summer. So what have the past two months been for Austinites? Practice? It's been very hot already, which means for the next four months a lot of beer will need to be consumed to beat this excruciatingly high heat. Lucky for you, Austin has plenty of local options to choose from.
Here are five craft beers in the Austin area that can help you beat the heat. Remember, these are just recommendations. Drink anything local for all I care, but these are probably what you'll see me drinking during the hot summer months.
Circle Brewing WRYteous Rye Wheat IPA
The newest concoction from Circle Brewing is a perfect combination of mouth filling fruitiness and hop bitterness with an incredibly dry finish, leaving you with wanting more and more after each pint.
(512) Brewing Wit
Shit, I don't have a picture but go out and see and drink this one for yourself. You won't regret it with it's incredibly refreshing and dry finish.
Jester King Drink'in the Sunbelt
This year's batch of the JK/Mikkeller collaboration beer is a little different from last year. Aside from being USDA Certified Organic, this hoppy wheat beer is low abv (3.9%) (perfect for multiple pints) and brewed with farmhouse yeast and Zythos hops, a new hop blend reminiscent of Amarillo and Cascade.
Uncle Billy's Agave Wit
This classic from your favorite uncle is a traditional witbier brewed with agave nectar instead of orange. It's intensely refreshing and easy to drink.
Austin Beerworks Pearl-Snap Pils
Clean, crisp, hoppy and from a can so you can take it anywhere.
What will you be drinking during the summer months? What's your favorite local summertime beer? I would love to find out. Cheers!
