no hop left behind - austin beerworks pearl-snap pils

An Austinite's Quest for the Best Hoppy Beer in Austin

Pearl-Snap Pils

Stats:
Brewery: Austin Beerworks
IBU: 45
ABV: 5.3%
Hops: German Magnum, Tettnanger, Saaz, Hallertau
Color: Clear straw

Appearance - 10
Yep, you saw that right, a perfect Bo Derek running out of the water 10. It amazes me that four hairy men make a beer this pretty. This German style pilsner pours a perfectly crystal clear straw color with a thin white head. It almost makes you tear up looking at this beer.

Aroma - 8
Slightly toasty and spicy with hints of bread and yeast and a slight bite. These are pretty typical pilsner aromas here.

Hop Usage - 9
Nothing but German hops here folks (three of which are noble hops).

Overall Flavor - 18
To be quite honest, this is probably my favorite offering from Austin Beerworks. The flavors are crisp, clean with a nice spicy bitterness that fills the palate. The hoppy bitterness isn't overwhelming like an IPA, but instead is used as a catalyst for the bready toasty notes. It's a good thing Snap never had this beer, otherwise Rice Krispies would just be Crackle and Pop.

Total - 45
